Project Overview

Transit-Tech Limited set out to build Transit, a tech-driven mobility platform that gives commuters in emerging African cities reliable, on-demand and seamless transportation through a mobile app. The first rollout targets Lagos State, and the platform is designed to expand to other Nigerian states.

Verdant DevCore Technologies was engaged to take the product from idea to launch: product requirements and software architecture, the backend and APIs, Android, iOS and web apps, a marketing website, store submissions, and the driver training and pilot trips that come before a public launch.

Business Challenge

Public transportation in Nigeria, as in much of Africa, has struggled for years, and those problems shape commuters’ daily lives and the state’s economic development. The brief set out four of them:

  • Inefficiency: delays, overcrowded vehicles and unreliable services cost commuters time and productivity.
  • Safety: poorly maintained vehicles, weak security measures and inadequate driver training put passengers at risk.
  • Environmental impact: outdated vehicles and inefficient routes drive high pollution, harming the environment and public health.
  • Limited accessibility: parts of the state are poorly served or not served at all, cutting residents off from jobs, schools and essential services.

Any solution had to work for two groups at once: commuters, who need a dependable way to get around, and government, which needs a transport system that is safer, cleaner and reaches more people.

Why Transit-Tech Chose Verdant DevCore Technologies

Transit-Tech needed one partner who could cover the whole product: specification, system architecture, backend engineering, mobile and web apps, and the operational work of getting drivers ready. Verdant DevCore Technologies offered that end-to-end team with a structured process: initial planning, wireframes, mockups for sign-off, development, testing, and deployment to the App Store and Google Play.

The milestone plan was clear from the start. Requirements and architecture came first, followed by backend and frontend builds with CI/CD and unit tests, then go-live and a dedicated pilot phase. Transit-Tech could see what would be delivered at each stage and when.

The Solutions

We designed and built a multi-platform mobility product around six core capabilities:

  • Ride booking: book a ride from your current location to any destination, or schedule trips in advance.
  • Real-time tracking: follow vehicles live to see arrival times and routes.
  • Trip notifications: status updates on vehicle location and estimated time of arrival.
  • Safety features: driver verification, emergency contacts and a reporting system for safety concerns.
  • Optimised routes and shared rides: fewer empty seats and shorter routes, which means lower emissions.
  • Wider coverage: service planned so that residents in underserved areas can still get a ride.

Behind the apps sits a backend with infrastructure configuration, access control for logins and permissions, feature APIs and a CI/CD pipeline with unit tests. On top of it we built the Android, iOS and web app interfaces and a marketing website, integrated with the backend APIs and third-party services. The rollout plan includes App Store and Google Play submissions, driver and personnel training, and pilot trip simulations before the public launch.

Impact

Transit is built to give Lagos commuters a dependable way to plan, book and track their trips. Shorter waiting times, optimised routes and fuller vehicles make the network more efficient, while driver verification and in-app reporting make travel safer.

The wider aim is economic and social. Better transport connects people to jobs and keeps goods and services moving. Optimised routes and shared rides cut emissions. And by reaching underserved areas, the platform makes transport available to residents wherever they live.

Key Takeaways

  • Technology fixes public transport only when it is designed around the real problems. Every feature in Transit, from real-time tracking to driver verification, answers a specific problem commuters face today: inefficiency, safety, pollution or poor access.
  • A mobility product is more than an app. Backend architecture, access control, CI/CD, store submissions, driver training and pilot simulations all have to be planned together for a launch to succeed in the real world.
  • Clear milestones keep a complex, multi-platform build on track. Splitting the work into requirements, backend, frontend, go-live and pilot phases gave the client visibility at every stage and a predictable path to launch.

Frequently Asked Questions

Have questions about this project? Explore answers to common inquiries about the objectives, design process, challenges, and outcomes to better understand how the solution was planned, executed, and delivered.

To transform public transportation in Nigerian cities, starting with Lagos State, with a mobility app that lets commuters book, schedule and track rides, while making the network safer, more efficient, more accessible and more environmentally friendly.

The plan runs for about 26 weeks across five milestones: product requirements and architecture (4 weeks), backend development (6 weeks), frontend development (8 weeks), go-live (2 weeks), and personnel training with a pilot test (6 weeks).

Android and iOS mobile apps, a web app and a marketing website, all powered by the same backend APIs. The mobile apps are distributed through Google Play and the App Store.

Driver verification, emergency contact options and an in-app reporting system for safety concerns. Drivers and other personnel are also trained before launch.

Route planning and shared rides let the service reach areas the existing network misses, so residents can get to jobs, schools and essential services wherever they live.
