Project Overview

The Africa Resource Centre for Excellence in Supply Chain Management (ARC_ESM) works to strengthen supply chains across Africa through thought leadership, advisory and brokerage support, and platforms that bring together the private sector, experts and centres of excellence.

Verdant DevCore Technologies reviewed ARC_ESM’s existing website, documented its gaps, and proposed a complete redesign built on WordPress, delivered by a five-person team covering product management, UI/UX design, frontend engineering, SEO and content strategy.

Business Challenge

Our review of the existing site found problems in five areas:

  • Layout and structure: inconsistent layouts, uneven spacing and poor alignment, including in the header navigation and footer.
  • Responsiveness and accessibility: the site was not mobile responsive, and email addresses and phone numbers weren’t clickable.
  • Visual design: repeated and blurry images, an incoherent content flow, and weak typography that made headings hard to tell apart from body text.
  • Engagement: layouts that didn’t encourage visitors to act, and a newsletter confirmation page with an unrelated banner image.
  • Blog and errors: a blog link that led to an unavailable page, poorly laid-out articles with no categories, and no custom 404 page.

Together these gaps affected accessibility, brand perception and visitor engagement, and pointed to a full redesign rather than piecemeal fixes.

Why ARC_ESM Chose Verdant DevCore Technologies

Verdant DevCore Technologies started with evidence: a documented review of the existing website and specific recommendations, including a mobile-first interface, a consistent design system, better content organisation and conversion-focused layouts.

We backed this with a modern, open stack (WordPress, PHP, JavaScript and MySQL, designed in Figma and managed in Jira), a five-person specialist team, and a five-milestone plan from requirements to go-live.

The Solutions

We designed and built a mobile-first website of at least 22 pages, organised around ARC_ESM’s work:

  • About: About Us, Team (Board of Directors and Leadership) and Careers.
  • Service areas: Thought Leadership for Supply Chain Prioritisation and Adoption of Best Practices, Advisory Support and Brokerage Support.
  • Platforms: Private Sector Membership (PSM), the ARC_ESM Expert Pool and the ARC_ESM Centre of Excellence (COE), with online membership payment through Paystack or Flutterwave.
  • Projects: ARC_ESM’s track record, with a page for each project.
  • Knowledge and resources: reports, case studies, articles and publications, impact data, events, and a media gallery with lightbox viewing.
  • Legal: privacy, cookie and security policies, plus FAQs.

Across the site we added a newsletter, a customised website search, Google Analytics, image and cache optimisation, cookie consent and reCAPTCHA-protected contact forms. Advanced SEO covers keyword research, an SEO-driven content review, metadata, backlinks, an XML sitemap, robots.txt and an llms.txt file for AI search tools. Security includes a web application firewall, a security audit application, two-factor admin login, and custom admin login and 404 pages.

Impact

The redesign addresses every gap found in the review. Visitors on any device get a consistent, readable site where contact details are clickable, articles are organised by category, and a mistyped link ends on a helpful 404 page instead of an error.

Clear service and platform pages, online membership payment and conversion-focused layouts give visitors a direct path to join or get involved, while advanced SEO and a structured knowledge hub help ARC_ESM’s reports and research reach a wider audience.

Key Takeaways

  • Start with an honest audit. A documented review of the existing website made the case for a redesign and set clear goals for the new one.
  • Mobile-first is no longer optional. A site that doesn’t work well on phones loses a large share of its audience before they read a word.
  • Content needs structure to be found. Categorised resources, site search and advanced SEO turn a library of reports and articles into a knowledge hub.
