Project Overview

The Nigerian Society of Travel Medicine (NSTM) is a professional body for travel medicine in Nigeria. It needed a website that represents the society, serves its members, and shares travel health information, events and resources.

After detailed conversations with the society and a review of reference sites, including the International Society of Travel Medicine (ISTM) and the South African Society of Travel Medicine (SASTM), Verdant DevCore Technologies designed and built the website on a content management system.

Business Challenge

A professional society’s website has several jobs: to show the public what the society does, to help people find travel health providers, and to give members a reason to join and stay active. NSTM needed all of this in one place.

Members needed a portal where they could log in, register and pay online. The society needed an easy way to publish events, resources and news, and to keep its social media audience connected to the site.

Why NSTM Chose Verdant DevCore Technologies

NSTM wanted a site that matched the standard of established international societies. We used ISTM’s content and SASTM’s structure as reference points, and designed a website tailored to NSTM’s members and goals.

Our structured process (specifications, wireframes, mockups, development, testing and launch) set out a five-to-six-week timeline, with an optional 12-month support plan to keep the site secure and up to date after launch.

The Solutions

We designed and built a website organised around the society’s members and audience:

  • Home and About pages, including the society’s team.
  • A Providers page to help the public find travel medicine providers.
  • An Events page, with detail pages for the society’s events.
  • A Resources section with sub-pages for travel health information.
  • A Membership page and a members’ portal with login.
  • A Blog/News page and a Contact page.

Features include social media integration with Facebook, Twitter and LinkedIn (with a Twitter feed on the site), newsletter subscription, downloadable forms and online payments. Security includes an SSL certificate, a security audit application and a web application firewall.

Impact

Members can log in, register and pay online, download forms, and keep up with events and news in one place, while the public can find providers and travel health resources.

The CMS lets NSTM publish events, resources and news without developers, and the integrated social feeds and newsletter keep its community engaged between events.

Key Takeaways

  • Learn from the best in your field. Reference sites like ISTM and SASTM helped shape a website that meets international standards.
  • Give members a reason to log in. A portal with registration, payments and downloadable forms turns a website into a membership tool.
  • Keep content easy to publish. When events, resources and news can be updated in-house, the website stays current and useful.
